Jackson Hole News and Guide reports that severe housing conditions rank #2 among health issues in a survey conducted by St. John’s Medical Center and Teton County Public Health. Severe housing is defined as “a household that has one or more of the following: housing lacks complete kitchen facilities; lacks compete plumbing; is severely overcrowded (1.5 persons or more per room); severely cost burdened (monthly costs including utilities exceeding 50 percent of monthly income).”
More and more studies are coming out that draw the link between adverse health effects and stable, affordable housing, adding yet more concerns to the lack of affordable housing in many resort-impacted communities.
