Housing issues impact communities, residents, workers and employers in many ways. To help address these impacts, it is important to inform the public about these often complicated issues. The local media can play a strong role in helping to provide this education.
Starting in September 2016, the Summit Daily, in Summit County, CO, ran a 13-part series, Housing Divided in which WSW Consulting and Rees Consulting are frequently quoted due to their expertise on housing issues in the region (see parts 1, 4, 5 and 6 in particular).
In November 2016, Summit County voters approved a 0.6-percent countywide sales tax dedicated for affordable housing. Summit County is the only community in the Colorado mountains to pass a sales tax via voter-approval for affordable housing in at least the past decade. Outreach and education has been a significant part of this success.
